Its not just that you can make phonecalls on the move .. its the fact that other people can get hold of you wherever you are. Some peopel may view that as a bad thing... so they shouldnt own a mobile smile.gif

would you use your mobile phone at home ever?

yeah, use my mobile at home all the time, we don't actually have a land line as there is no point biggrin.gif

To expand on what you've said there (as I agree totally) people can email me web links or files etc then if they want to hurry things along, text me or ring to tell me to check my mail which I can do anywhere I have signal.

Like has been said before, it comes down to what you want a "mobile device" for. Some people don't like the idea of music or inet on a phone as you are more likely to be low on battery when you come to need to make a phone call, and that argument can hold a lot of truth, since the latest gen of do everything devices tend to only last a day or so under heavy use.

This post was brought to you from my iPhone while I was on the can biggrin.gif gotta love the modern world

What's the cost of using the internet on your phone Dibz?

Is it the same as making a call?

Thats kinda what I mean, a mobile can happily replace your home phone - your mobiel cant happily replace your home internet connection - even if you are someone who just uses the net for browsing smile.gif

internet is free gk.. the o2 tarriff you *have* to go with for the iphone comes with unlimited data (subject to fair use) and free unmetered connectivity to any of the 'cloud' wifi hotspots (premier travel inns, wetherspoons pubs, airports etc).

nubs, i wouldn't want to to replace a pc with a mobile device... the only reason a home phone is replacable with a mobile is because all a home phone does is take or make a phone call... and thats it... a pc does a fuck load more than that. Internet through a web browser provides more functionality than a phone connected to a land line... ultimately its not about the strength of a mobile device when at home with everything at your finger tips, its more when you are away from those things but could do with them that it becomes most useful.

My point probably wasnt clear - I was just explaining why the mobile phone has become the norm, something that most people want.. and why i dont think mobile internet will be like that. tongue.gif

There was a time, not that long ago, when I thought mobile phones would never catch on.
It was the early 90s, I was working as an electrician and my boss bought me this monstrosity:

user posted image
(not sure if it was this exact one, if not, it's very similar)

IIRC it cost upwards of £2000, had to be recharged every 4 hours and was bloudy heavy.

My point being, now, everybody has a mobile, they are the norm.
There will come a time (very soon) where having proper internet access on your phone will be the norm and you'll wonder how you ever survived without it.

2x updates

they recently released a patch which added some new features, (a couple of 'extras' and one that should have been in from the start)

and i just found out tonight that they have bumped the tariffs, the min tariff that i'm on for the extortionate price of 35quid a month just got boosted from 100mins 200texts (i think it is) to 600mins 500texts, and retains the unlimited 'cloud' wifi and o2 gprs usage.

essentially making the tariff now a reasonable price.

shame the handset is still costly, but hey, they are getting there biggrin.gif

And now they are bringing out Iphone MK2 smile.gif hell it isnt even been on the UK market that long.

Dont worry though no changes that will piss off current owners, they have added a lot more memory in the shape of solid state.

N95 8GB does beat it hands down to be honest blink.gif

from what i had heard they were planning on probably 3g and some form of gps/sat nav in the next one, and it would be out somepoint this month, who knows if that is the case...

more memory would suggest they maybe plan to store more of the map data on the phone perhaps?

yup still loving mine, i made the move to the iphone3g to allow me to get the gps bits, exchange support and most importantly so the missus could have my iphone to use on her 15quid a month tariff biggrin.gif

has worked out well for the both of us.

oh... except that they have knacked the battery life at the moment and it now only lasts around a day with use, which just plain sucks, but is something they are looking at and can be sorted with software updates, but it hasn't worked as yet sad.gif

for me there is still no nicer handset to use for mixed phone/text/internet/map/gps/mp3 player usage.
